In a couple of weeks, the SID Display Week - the biggest international conference for electronic displays will take place in Los Angeles. With more than 7000 attendees and 250 exhibitors, SID Display Week is definitely the must-see event for the leading display manufacturers, materials suppliers, business analysts and investors.

From year to year, the SID is getting bigger and offers not only an impressive exhibition but also several courses, a business and an investor conference, a technical symposium and many networking events. Why is the SID Display Week so successful? Because displays are an integral part of our daily life. Smartphones, tablets, TVs would be unimaginable ​without proper displays.

Today’s smartphone customers expect super thin and light devices with pure colors and the best picture quality. The newest displays of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X are close to perfection and that is all thanks to the OLED technology. OLEDs are already well established as the premium displays  in the industry, but finally, now in 2018, OLED displays are expected to reach more than half of the revenues of the smartphone display market (>25 B USD).But the OLED technology has much more to offer, especially when it comes to flexible and foldable displays.

Foldable displays will be a focus topic during the SID Display Week. Keynote speeches and several sessions of the Business Conference will put special emphasis on flexible and foldable OLEDs and how they will change the future of the display market.

There is no doubt that foldable OLED displays will revolutionize the smartphone market but there is still some technical issues which display manufacturer need to cope with.Due to the foldable display surface, OLED manufacturers will have limited space for the battery. That means, next generation OLEDs will have to maximize performance of the display and to reduce the power consumption. From that perspective, the main problem facing current OLEDs is the limited efficiency of the blue emitters. The performance of the blue pixel is much lower than the red and the green pixels. This leads to overall huge power consumption and frequently recharging of our smartphones. The OLED industry has been seeking to develop a highly efficient blue material for several years but without any success.

CYNORA decided to focus on this blue topic in 2016 and the company is now on track to commercialize the industry’s first efficient blue OLED material. CYNORA uses for its blue development íts unique TADF (thermally activated delayed fluorescence) technology. This new approach enables CYNORA to provide stable and efficient emitters, which allow a significant reduction of the power consumption for OLED devices.
