OLED Display

In contrast to the widespread LCD technology, OLED displays have many advantages: these include low power consumption, a thin structure of only a few hundred nanometers, high contrast and high resolution. Of particular interest is the use of OLED displays on transparent and flexible surfaces. Plastic Polyimide substrates e.g. are light and more robust, which is favorable for mobile displays.

The OLED market display is already established and is growing fast. By 2021, the OLED market is expected to reach a volume of $ US 80 billion.

The power consumption of AMOLED displays must be still further reduced. This is especially important for mobile applications such as smartphones and smartwatches to prolong battery life. For this purpose, one needs efficient emitter materials for the red, green and blue colors.
